Gaza death toll since October 2023 rises to 73,651, health ministry says

Since October 2023, the death toll in Gaza has reached 73,651, according to the territory's health ministry. Israel's military campaign against Gaza, launched following Hamas's attacks on October 7, 2023, has resulted in the deaths of 73,651 Palestinians and injuries to 174,575 others, as of September 5, 2026. Wafa news agency reported that hospitals in Gaza received 17 bodies in the past two days, including five killed and one who died from injuries, along with 11 bodies found under rubble and 27 injured Palestinians.

The cumulative death toll since the ceasefire on October 11, 2025, has reached 1,344, with 4,464 others injured. An additional 815 bodies have been recovered. Wafa also reported that 160 more Palestinian fatalities were added to the death toll after verification during August. Rescue and ambulance crews continue to struggle to reach victims trapped under rubble and on roads.
