Delhi Building Collapse News LIVE: 2 dead; 5 critical in Satya Niketan PG collapse; Delhi Police register FIR

A five-story building housing a boys' hostel in Satya Niketan, near Delhi University's South Campus, collapsed on Sunday afternoon, resulting in two deaths and five others being critically injured, according to Delhi Police. The building, known as "Hostel Daze," had recently undergone repair work in its basement when the collapse occurred around 1:30 pm.

Rescue teams, including personnel from the Delhi Police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Fire Service, and Directorate of Disaster Management (DDMA), are working to recover survivors trapped beneath the debris. Six bodies have been recovered so far, with one declared dead upon arrival at a hospital. Emergency services are struggling to access the site due to the densely populated neighborhood, which consists of narrow lanes, eateries, and numerous PG accommodations catering to the student population.

Residents and eyewitnesses are assisting in the search efforts, using their hands and available equipment to locate those believed to be buried under the rubble. The incident has drawn concern from local politicians, including Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who has called for immediate rescue efforts and better protection of students. The Delhi Police has registered an FIR in connection with the building collapse.
