Delhi building collapse LIVE updates: Six rescued, several feared trapped

A five-story hostel collapsed near Shiv Mandir in South West Delhi at around 1:33 p.m. on Sunday, September 6, 2026. The Delhi Fire Service reported that six individuals had been rescued thus far, though the total number of people potentially trapped remains unknown. Rescue efforts are currently underway, with JCBs being deployed to clear the debris. The local police are directing traffic and urging residents to evacuate the area.

The sudden tremor caused residents to flee their homes, only to witness the devastation of Hostel Daze, a PG accommodation teeming with students. People have been manually removing debris and utilizing any available tools to aid in the rescue operations. Rajen Chhetri, a police officer, stated that the building housed approximately 15 rooms, with two to three students sharing each space, and construction work was taking place in the basement at the time of the collapse.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has ordered all officials to extend all possible assistance to the victims, and she has been maintaining constant communication with departmental officials, including the District Magistrate, Delhi Police, and the National Disaster Response Force. The building, estimated to be 40-50 years old, comprised a basement and five upper floors and was utilized as a PG accommodation. Repair work was ongoing in the basement when the disaster struck.
