Bishop Wanjiru declares Nairobi governor bid on K1 ticket

Nairobi, Kenya – Bishop Margaret Wanjiru has announced her plans to run for the position of Nairobi Governor on the Kenya Moja 'K1' party ticket. In a statement during a Sunday service at Jesus is Alive Ministries, Wanjiru emphasized that her decision to contest is driven by a desire to serve the people of Nairobi, rather than being a personal ambition.

She highlighted the need for a leader who residents can trust with county resources, who possesses qualities like firmness, transparency, honesty, and dependability. Wanjiru stated that Nairobi requires leaders who are committed to upholding their word, respecting people, and embodying values that can serve as models for future generations.

The Bishop clarified that her candidacy is not a personal ambition but a call to service, and she is fully committed to this cause. Her decision to enter the gubernatorial race follows her resignation from the chairmanship of the Nairobi Rivers Commission, which she had held since October 2024, after receiving a 30-day notice on August 13.

The government had transferred the commission from the Office of the President to the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development. Wanjiru had thanked President William Ruto for the opportunity to lead the commission and expressed hope for future collaboration on other issues. Currently, she has taken on leadership of the newly formed K1 movement and aligned the party with the opposition.
