WAEC releases 2026 WASSCE results, cancels entire results of 861 candidates

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the provisional 2026 WASSCE results, canceling the entire scores of 861 candidates for using mobile phones during exams. Additionally, the Council nullified the results of 7,434 candidates who brought foreign materials such as notes, textbooks, and printed materials into the examination halls.

According to Mr. John K. Kapi, Head of Public Affairs at the WAEC National Office, the organization withheld subject results for 957 candidates and the complete results of 270 candidates due to various suspected offenses. Furthermore, subject results of candidates from 169 schools were withheld due to alleged collusion, with investigations still ongoing.

The withheld results may be released or canceled depending on the investigation results by October 30, 2026. Candidates affected by the cancellations or withholdings are advised to visit the Council's website and click on the "Withheld/Cancelled" button to view the reasons for their results' withholding or cancellation. The provisional results will be made accessible to school heads to allow them to access the scores of their candidates.

WAEC has also cautioned candidates, parents, and stakeholders to be cautious of fraudsters offering to upgrade results for a fee. The organization reassures that WAEC results are secure and can be authenticated using its results verification system, which includes a QR code for verification purposes. A total of 512,862 candidates, consisting of 225,270 males and 287,592 females from 1,022 schools, registered for the examination, marking an 11.07% increase over the 2025 entry figure of 461,736. Out of the registered candidates, 5,049, or 0.98%, were absent from the exams.
