Anwar expresses solidarity with Indonesia over volcanic disaster and haze challenges

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 6 — Malaysia's Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has expressed solidarity with Indonesia in the wake of the country's volcanic disaster and haze-related challenges. Anwar made this known during a phone call to former Indonesian President Joko Widodo, also known as Jokowi, who is currently in Penang participating in the Penang Peace Dialogue.

In a Facebook post, Anwar further detailed the conversation between the two leaders, noting that they exchanged updates on the situation. However, Anwar apologized for not being able to meet Jokowi in person in Penang due to a previously planned appointment with farmers, livestock breeders, smallholders, and the agro community at the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Exhibition (MAHA) 2026.

Anwar highlighted the deep historical, cultural, and fraternal bonds between Malaysia and Indonesia, reaffirming that these ties will continue to be strengthened for the benefit of both nations and the prosperity of the region. According to ANTRAM, Jokowi attended the Penang Peace Dialogue and shared his perspectives on the role of leaders and citizens in establishing peace, which will be featured in a gala dinner last night. Jokowi is also set to deliver a keynote address at the forum today.
