Anwar expresses solidarity with Indonesia over volcanic disaster and haze challenges

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has expressed solidarity with Indonesia following the country's recent volcanic disaster and haze-related issues. The Prime Minister contacted former Indonesian President Joko Widodo, also known as Jokowi, during his visit to Penang for the Penang Peace Dialogue. In a Facebook post, Anwar said the two leaders discussed recent developments and exchanged updates on the situation.

Anwar also apologized for not being able to meet Jokowi in person, citing a prior engagement with farmers, livestock breeders, smallholders, and the agro community at the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Exhibition (MAHA) 2026. He emphasized that Malaysia and Indonesia are not just neighboring countries but kindred nations with a shared history, culture, and strong brotherhood ties.

Anwar stressed that these bonds of friendship and mutual respect will continue to be nurtured for the well-being of both nations and the prosperity of the region. According to ANTARA, Jokowi attended the Penang Peace Dialogue in George Town and shared his perspectives on the role of leaders and people in establishing peace at a gala dinner. Jokowi is also set to deliver a keynote address at the forum today.
