After quitting politics, former Skudai rep Marina Ibrahim is now Johor Sultan’s special officer for Orang Asli affairs

Former Skudai representative Marina Ibrahim, who recently left the political arena, has been appointed by the Sultan of Johor to serve as the entity's special officer for Orang Asli affairs. Marina, a former DAP assemblyman, joined the Sultan Ibrahim Johor Foundation in this capacity, according to Free Malaysia Today. Johor's Deputy Chief Minister, Onn Hafiz Ghazi, announced the appointment, stating that Marina would collaborate with the Orang Asli community to address their needs.

State Executive Councillor Israk Abdullah will also be responsible for overseeing Orang Asli welfare. Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi expressed confidence in Marina's ability to effectively engage with the community by visiting Orang Asli villages and gaining a firsthand understanding of the challenges they face. Zahid emphasized the importance of such an approach to identify and address the community's issues.

Marina first announced her decision to withdraw from politics on May 31, citing her intention to continue her social work. Johor DAP chairman, Teo Nie Ching, revealed that the party had intended for Marina to contest Tiram in the upcoming July 11 state election. Marina won the Skudai seat in the 2022 Johor election, defeating BN's Lim Soon Hai and Perikatan Nasional's Khoo Keng Ek.
