US envoy in back-to-back contacts with Putin, Zelensky; pushes trilateral US-Russia-Ukraine talks
US President Donald Trump's envoys, Steve Wittkoff and Jared Kushner, met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv to discuss a potential end to the Russia-Ukraine war. The talks, which also involved UK, French and German national security advisers, focused on a framework for a long-term peace and Ukraine's reconstruction, but significant differences between Russia and Ukraine remained.
The US proposed restarting direct three-way negotiations between Russia, Ukraine and the US, which last took place about six months ago. The parties agreed to hold further meetings, including on a "winter package" of military and energy support for Ukraine.
