The strikes crippled two major Iranian oil export facilities near Hargash and the Strait of Jask, forcing the Kalu tanker to evacuate its crew and sink it entirely. This move is part of the Trump administration's new response guidelines, which aim to retaliate for Iranian attacks with more significant economic consequences.

The U.S. has been engaging in "targeted" strikes on Iranian-linked vessels since the attack on a tanker in the Hormuz Strait. The Iranian Foreign Ministry condemned the U.S. actions as "illegal and aggressive acts" and a "war crime." Iran's military also warned that the U.S. could escalate its attacks on American warships if the U.S. continues to target Iranian vessels.

The Trump administration is focusing on reducing the turmoil caused by the Iran war, especially as the midterm elections approach.
