€200m Marbella Bajadilla marina rebuild planned for 2027 as Banus eyes multi-port growth

The Spanish port agency has granted a 40-year contract to rebuild Marbella's La Bajadilla marina, paving the way for a €200 million investment and capacity expansion. The local consortium Marina Internacional de Marbella will take ownership of the dock area in January, with an 11-month window for design and a 36-month period to construct the facility.

Heavier machinery is expected to arrive in 2027, following the completion of a 1.13 km main breakwater on the east and south, a 450 m western arm, and a spur to direct Arroyo Primero sand, which will enhance the beach area. The upgraded marina will accommodate approximately 750 berths, allowing larger vessels such as yachts and some cruise ships to dock.

Additional amenities like shops, a modernized fishing quay, a yard, and around 1,000 parking spaces will be included in the project. The coastal works will also involve relocating sand from Venus, La Bajadilla, El Cable, and El Faro beaches. The project is part of Marbella's broader €400 million port investment, while another town harbor, Virgen del Carmen Marina, has already received a €1 million upgrade from the council.

Puerto Banus, located west of Marbella, is focusing on converting eight pontoons into floating decks by late 2026, pending a financial partner for the marina brand. Marbella's port plans stretch until 2066, and surrounding areas like San Andres, Benalmadena, and Malaga are also pursuing similar developments to capitalize on the luxury-berth market.
