Zambry: Malaysia Higher Education Plan 2026-2035 aims to shape students with strong values alongside academic excellence

IPOH, September 5 — The Malaysia Higher Education Plan 2026-2035, according to Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, aims to cultivate students who are not only academically proficient but also exhibit strong values and good character. Zambry highlighted that education's purpose transcends merely producing knowledgeable and skilled graduates; it seeks to create better individuals capable of thriving in a shifting world and meeting job market demands.

Speaking at the "Sembang Santai Bersama Doc Zam" session during the Perak Sejahtera Student Carnival 3.0 at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) in Tanjong Malim the day prior, Zambry stressed the importance of nurturing students' character and personal values alongside academic excellence. He pointed out that rapid technological advancements, including artificial intelligence, large language models, and computing technology, necessitate the higher education system to prepare students for an ever-evolving job landscape.

Acknowledging the greater challenges faced today compared to previous generations, Zambry called for changes in the higher education system to equip students with the necessary skills to meet these challenges. Additionally, the RPTM introduces greater flexibility, facilitating working adults to resume their studies through the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) pathway.

The Perak Sejahtera Student Carnival 3.0, which united 807 participants from institutions of higher learning and Form Six, serves as a crucial platform for fostering networks, confidence, and a sense of unity among Perak's youth. Zambry emphasized that the diverse participants from various districts and ethnicities exemplify the spirit of togetherness that must be further nurtured to produce a competitive generation of future leaders for Perak.

UPSI vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Md Amin Md Taff, also present at the event, expressed that such gatherings offer Perak students the chance to exchange experiences and draw inspiration from seasoned leaders in higher education. He stressed that events like these play a vital role in shaping a younger generation poised to become future leaders and contribute to the nation's development.
