Yankees fall to Padres, 3-2, on walk-off home run in extras

The San Diego Padres emerged victorious in a thrilling extra-inning game against the New York Yankees, securing a 3-2 win to climb back into the second National League wild-card spot. Luis Campusano delivered the winning blow with a two-run home run in the top of the 10th inning, earning his sixth career homer. With this win, the Padres leapfrogged Arizona into playoff contention, while New York dropped four games behind first-place Tampa Bay in the AL East.

Campusano's 10th-inning homer sailed to left field off Paul Blackburn, giving the Padres a lead they would not relinquish. Early in the game, rookie Spencer Jones had a significant impact, hitting an RBI single off homegrown closer Mason Miller in the 8th inning, putting the Yankees ahead 2-1. Jones, a native of northern San Diego County, made his first big-league appearance at Petco Park. Jones' RBI single set the stage for the Padres' rally in the 10th.

Miller came into the game with the Yankees trailing 1-0 in the 9th inning, retiring the Padres for the final out of the inning. The Padres then scored a runner in the third inning, setting the tone for a dramatic turnaround. By the top of the 10th, David Bednar struck out Austin Hays, setting up Ben Rice's tying home run to the top of the center field wall off Walker Buehler in straightaway center field.

With two outs, San Diego loaded the bases with a baserunner in the third, and Campusano's two-run homer proved to be the decisive factor in the Padres' come-from-behind victory.
