‘Won’t happen in Bengal’: Suvendu Adhikari says FIR ordered against teacher for ‘removing tilak’ from student’s forehead

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari stated on Friday that "these things will not happen in West Bengal" after police were directed to file an FIR against a teacher who had removed tilak from a student's forehead at a missionary school in South Kolkata. The teacher had allegedly harassed the student daily, asking them to remove the tilak and wash their face.

The incident came to light when the student shared it on social media, sparking controversy over religious freedom in educational institutions. The education department became aware of the allegation, leading to the teacher's suspension. Additionally, a government employee at Bikash Bhavan, who posted objectionable content against Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media, was also suspended.

Adhikari emphasized that such behavior will not be tolerated in Bengal, asserting that no government employee can engage in such actions. Following the BJP's victory in West Bengal, Adhikari has instructed state government employees to adhere to service rules and avoid criticizing government policies or actions.
