Who is 'Bittu Tabahi’? MP boy who went viral for cleaning polluted river and got job offer from Netherlands

Surendra Singh Choudhary, better known as Bittu Tabahi, is a 20-year-old man from Madhya Pradesh who has gained significant recognition for his efforts to clean the polluted Ajnar River. Having launched his cleanup initiative in January, Tabahi has been independently working to remove plastic waste, algae, and other debris from the river, documenting his progress through Instagram videos.

His efforts have garnered widespread attention on social media, with videos of his work going viral and attracting the interest of environmental initiatives worldwide. Dutch environmental organization The Ocean Cleanup, founded by Boyan Slat, became aware of Tabahi's work after seeing a post on X that highlighted his efforts to clean the river.

Slat responded to the post with a simple offer: "Come work for us." The offer has sparked reactions from other users on X, with many praising Tabahi's initiative and expressing admiration for the opportunity presented to him. Despite his young age, Tabahi's dedication to environmental conservation has been recognized by influential figures such as industrialist Anand Mahindra, who praised his efforts earlier this year, countering criticism that he was seeking social media attention.

The Ocean Cleanup, led by Slat, is an organization focused on developing large-scale technologies to remove plastic from oceans and rivers, aiming to eliminate 90% of floating ocean plastic by 2040.
