Johannesburg is experiencing severe weather conditions, leading to significant disruptions across the city. Fallen trees have blocked multiple roads, including Cooper and Beryl Street in Cyrildene and intersections at Church Street and 14th Avenue in Mayfair. Additionally, a large tree fell onto a Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) vehicle at 545 Glen William Street and Hendrik Boom Street, causing the road to become completely closed.

The South African Weather Service has issued a Level 5 storm warning for Gauteng, warning residents to prepare for flooding, hail, lightning, and strong winds. The JMPD has urged all motorists and pedestrians to exercise extreme caution due to hazardous road conditions. Several key routes, such as those near Athlone Girls’ High School, Mayfair, Windsor, and Witpoortjie, are currently obstructed, with traffic being rerouted via nearby side streets.

Highways, including the M1, are also affected by debris and fallen trees. Emergency response teams, along with Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo, are working to clear the debris and assist with traffic diversion. Motorists are advised to stay at home and avoid low-lying areas with running water.
