Severe thunderstorms expected in parts of SA until Sunday: Forecaster

Severe thunderstorms are anticipated to impact various regions of South Africa until Sunday, with forecasters predicting conditions to ease from Monday. Muneiwa Singo, a forecaster, reported that temperatures will fluctuate between cool and warm. Currently, an Orange Level 5 warning is in effect for severe thunderstorms in the north-eastern areas of the Northern Cape, while a Yellow Level 4 warning is issued for central and eastern parts of the province.

For Sunday, a Yellow Level 4 warning is expected for the eastern section, alongside an Orange Level 6 warning for the extreme northeastern region of the province.

Singo noted that weather conditions are expected to improve on Monday, with mainly isolated showers and thundershowers forecast over the eastern parts of the province. He added that the Free State is also expected to be affected by severe thunderstorms over the weekend. Scattered to widespread showers and thundershowers are predicted on Saturday, with warnings issued across portions of the province.

On Sunday, widespread showers and thundershowers are anticipated across most of the Free State, with a Yellow Level warning in place for the extreme western areas and regions adjacent to the Lesotho border. Similarly, an Orange Level 6 warning is issued for the remainder of the province. On Monday, the forecaster expects weather conditions to be partly cloudy, with occasional isolated showers and thunderstorms in the western regions and scattered throughout the rest of the province. Temperatures are projected to remain cold to cool during this period.
