Israeli media: Israel to reduce forces in south Lebanon after tunnel destruction

Israeli media outlets have reported that Israel intends to reduce its military presence in southern Lebanon after the recent destruction of tunnels in the Ali Al-Taher region. According to the broadcaster, Israeli security officials are considering the establishment of a new security zone closer to the border, spanning a distance of three to four kilometers from the Lebanese border.

This proposal suggests a withdrawal from certain areas within the yellow line, which encompasses the Israeli security zone situated within Lebanese territory, such as areas north of the Litani River, including the Qalaat al-Shaqif region. Instead, forces would relocate to positions closer to the border, with fortifications and military posts established inside Lebanese territory in an area designated as the grey line.

The Israeli broadcaster emphasized that the plan is still in its early stages and has not yet garnered political approval. They noted that the proposal faces several challenges, primarily the transfer of control of the vacated areas to the Lebanese army and the ongoing negotiations between Israel and Lebanon.
