Explosion at Bolivian military base kills at least 10, dozens injured

An explosion at a military base in Viacha, Bolivia, resulted in at least 10 deaths and over 60 injuries on Friday, according to local authorities. The blast occurred around 2:30 pm in an area designated for storing pyrotechnic material. While the exact cause remains unknown, it is believed to have originated from the defense ministry's fireworks stockpile.

Viacha's health director, Rita Nebraska, stated that between 10 and 15 people were killed, with 62 people injured, including a girl suffering from third-degree burns. Police reported that more than 50 individuals were injured and numerous homes were damaged, primarily due to shattered windows. Emergency services, including ambulances, medical teams, and police, were dispatched to the scene to evaluate the extent of the damage and transport the wounded to nearby health centers.

Fire officials warned that a heat source remained at the site, posing a risk of additional explosions, and advised residents to maintain a safe distance of at least 150 meters.
