13 years later, Modi returns to SRCC as PM for centenary celebrations today

Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister, will return to Delhi University's Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) on Saturday to take part in the college's centenary celebrations, as per an official statement. Modi first visited the prestigious institution in 2013 when he was the Gujarat Chief Minister, and became Prime Minister the following year.

The event coincides with important Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Goa, scheduled for the upcoming year. Back in 2013, Modi, while addressing the gathering, shared his unique perspective on life by holding up a glass of water, contrasting the views of optimists and pessimists.

In April, Modi met the Governing Body and a delegation from the college at his residence to mark the 100th anniversary of the institution. He also released a commemorative postage stamp to celebrate the centenary of SRCC. The celebrations will be graced by the SRCC principal, Prof Simrit Kaur, and Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi. Joshi, who recently assumed the charge of the education ministry, expressed his appreciation for the college's remarkable journey and its significant contribution to education.

The centenary celebrations are particularly significant, falling on Teachers' Day, an occasion to honor the contributions of teachers and educators in shaping society. Former Union minister and BJP leader Vijay Goel, who is an alumnus of SRCC, expressed his pride in having hosted Modi at the college, as multiple generations of his family have studied there.

Goel reminisced about his own experiences in the college, highlighting the diverse experiences of students, including student politics, sports, and national-level competitions, even during the turbulent Emergency period.
