Why Vance says he wouldn't call the Iran conflict a war

Lebanon's President Joseph Aoun praised President Trump and the US for their efforts that led to the release of Lebanese detainees held by Israel. Israel had handed over one detainee on Thursday and four more on Friday, according to the ICRC. The five were among around 30 Lebanese detained by Israel during its war against Iran-backed Hezbollah. Many Lebanese families remain anxious about their loved ones' fate, as the ICRC has not been granted access to detainees in Israeli facilities since October 2023.

The US gas price record was set ahead of Labor Day weekend, with diesel reaching $5.85 a gallon. The AAA predicts that travelers will face the highest pump prices on record due to the ongoing Iran war, which has impeded traffic through the Strait of Hormuz and driven up global oil prices. He ruled out new negotiations with Iran until it stops attacking ships in the Strait of Hormuz. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed confidence in Iran's regime's imminent collapse, claiming it is weaker than ever and fighting for survival. This regime removal is his central task, according to Netanyahu, who is ahead of the Oct. 27 general elections in Israel.
