Two people rescued alive from Nepal hydropower tunnel

Kathmandu reported the rescue of two individuals alive from a hydropower tunnel in Nepal, nine days after a severe ice, rock, and mud landslide struck the Trishuli River valley, resulting in over 1,200 fatalities and the displacement of tens of thousands. The two individuals, identified as Sanjay Sah, a mechanical foreman, and Kabir Maharjan, a mechanical supervisor, were pulled from the Upper Trishuli 3A Hydropower Station tunnel.

Energy Minister Biraj Bhakta Shrestha's office confirmed the rescue. Both workers were admitted to a Kathmandu hospital, with Maharjan suffering from severe injuries, while Sah's injuries were deemed non-critical. The collapse of a glacier on the Trishuli River's upper reaches was believed to have trapped at least 900 people in tunnels associated with six hydropower projects along the river.
