Two Nepali workers rescued from hydropower plant tunnel 9 days after floods

KATHMANDU, September 4 - Two individuals, Sanjay Sah and Kabir Maharjan, were rescued alive on Friday from a tunnel associated with a hydropower station on the Trishuli River, nine days after a massive ice, rock, and mud landslide struck a valley in Nepal, resulting in over 1,200 fatalities and displacing tens of thousands. The two workers, a mechanical foreman and a mechanical supervisor, were pulled from the Upper Trishuli 3A Hydropower Station following the collapse of a glacier on August 26, which is believed to have trapped at least 900 people in tunnels linked to six hydropower projects along the river.

Although Maharjan is unable to move his hands and legs, his colleague Sah's injuries are not considered critical. The two are currently en route to a hospital in Kathmandu, according to an aide to the energy minister. Kabir's brother, Amir, who has not received official news, has been informed to proceed to the hospital, where his entire family is expressing immense relief.
