Ukrainian drones reportedly strike Russian defense plant over 1,300 km from Ukraine

Ukrainian drones reportedly targeted a military-industrial facility located over 1,300 kilometers from Ukraine, in Sterlitamak, Russia's Bashkortostan Republic, on September 4. According to local reports and footage shared on social media, the Sterlitamak Petrochemical Plant was the target of the attack. The facility, owned by Russian chemical holding Ruschem, produces aviation fuel and other materials critical to Russia's defense industry.

This is not the first time the plant has been attacked by Ukrainian drones; previous strikes occurred in November 2025 and April 2026. Bashkortostan authorities confirmed the drone attack on Sterlitamak's industrial zone but have not yet specified which facility was struck. Ukraine's military has not commented on the reported attack, and the extent of the damage remains unclear.

Sterlitamak has been a frequent target of Ukrainian long-range drone attacks, with the most recent incidents occurring on August 27. The persistent strikes on oil and gas processing plants in Russia have led to production cuts or halts, contributing to fuel shortages for citizens and military operations, and reducing a significant revenue stream for Russia's ongoing aggression.
