Trump says will ask Europeans to repay US for Ukraine aid

US President Donald Trump has announced he will be requesting European nations to reimburse the United States for the financial support provided to Ukraine during his predecessor Joe Biden's tenure. Trump has consistently advocated for Europe to bear a larger portion of the expenses associated with Western assistance for Ukraine in its ongoing conflict with Russia, which commenced over four years ago.

Hundreds of billions of dollars worth of aid was granted to Ukraine and NATO without any cost to Europe, had they only been asked to contribute. However, Trump now intends to seek payment for that money, albeit somewhat tardily. He posted this on his Truth Social platform, though he did not specify which countries he believed should bear the financial burden.

Additionally, Trump refuted claims that the US military was facing a shortage of munitions in its ongoing war against Iran, stating that Washington possesses a virtually unlimited supply of Mid to High Grade Ammunition and is actively constructing stockpiles at unprecedented levels. The World Health Organization reported that one of its primary warehouses in Ukraine was targeted by an overnight air attack, marking the third such incident in the past three months.

The WHO spokesperson, Christian Lindmeier, stated that the attack occurred in Kyiv Oblast, affecting a warehouse that stored essential humanitarian and medical supplies. Lindmeier emphasized that these attacks are part of a broader pattern harming humanitarian operations throughout Ukraine, with at least 20 attacks targeting warehouses storing humanitarian supplies in 2026 alone, including 15 attacks on health-related facilities.

These attacks have resulted in the destruction of critical medical resources intended for frontline and remote regions, as well as the loss of vital supplies in Dnipro due to an airstrike earlier this month. Lindmeier clarified that all warehouses, UN locations, and WHO facilities are deconflicted, with their locations clearly communicated to all parties involved in the armed conflict.

The WHO has documented over 3,000 attacks on healthcare facilities since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, stressing that health facilities and the health system are protected under international humanitarian and human rights laws.
