He also dismissed climate change as a hoax and urged successive governments to exploit the North Sea's oil and gas reserves. Burnham is currently considering the permitting of two large North Sea developments, promising a pragmatic approach to energy transition while emphasizing the need to transition to clean sources of electricity.

Trump's concerns about immigration, particularly illegal crossings from continental Europe, are significant among British voters and have contributed to the rise in popularity of Nigel Farage's right-wing Reform party.
