South Korean football referee faces hearing over 'period' insult

A South Korean woman football referee is set to appear before a disciplinary hearing after allegedly insulting former Chelsea midfielder Ji So-yun. The football association revealed the inquiry came after Ji claimed the official insulted her by suggesting she was menstruating during a domestic women's league match. The incident occurred when Ji requested a penalty for her team, Suwon FC Women, against Seoul City Hall in the WK League.

South Korea Football Association (KFA) officials have since referred the case to their disciplinary committee, though they did not specify when the hearing will take place. Initially, the KFA stated that the word "period" was not used, and the remarks did not specifically target Ji. The Korea Women's Football Federation (KWFF) argued that the term used, "girl's day," was a euphemism for menstruation.

Ji claimed she heard the comment through the communication system used by officials and that the KFA recognized the seriousness of the allegations.
