RCCG donates $265,854 to evacuate distressed Nigerians from South Africa

The Federal Government has commended the Redeemed Christian Church of God for providing $265,854 to assist in the evacuation of distressed Nigerians from South Africa. This donation will cover 500 one-way tickets for those seeking to return home, as reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement on Friday. The church, led by Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, is being hailed for its compassionate and firm commitment to helping Nigerians impacted by xenophobic and Afrophobic attacks.

The ministry emphasized the importance of such collaboration between faith-based organizations and government agencies in addressing social issues and promoting the common good. Thus far, 1,640 Nigerian nationals have been successfully repatriated, with the government bearing the full cost. Out of the remaining 255 Nigerians, 202 are awaiting final screening by South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs before their departure.

The evacuation effort, which began on June 10, 2026, is primarily sponsored through philanthropic donations, with the remaining 255 Nigerians to be assisted by charitable contributions.
