Police rescue two abandoned babies in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command in Abuja has rescued two abandoned babies in separate incidents on September 2, 2026. The first rescue occurred around 5:30 PM at Obodo Street in Kurudu, when a resident named Innocent heard a baby's cry and discovered a wrapped baby boy in a carton. The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, revealed that a team from Kurudu Division and the Juveniles and Women Care Department swiftly responded to the scene. The baby boy, now in stable condition, was taken to a nearby hospital for medical assessment.

The second rescue happened at 9:40 PM in Gwagwalada, when another resident, Ibrahim, heard a baby crying outside his gate. Ibrahim, along with community members, rescued the baby girl and reported the incident to the Gwagwalada Police Station. The girl was immediately taken to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital for medical examination and is currently receiving care before being handed over to Social Welfare Development for further assistance.

Police spokesperson Adeh commended Innocent, Ibrahim, and the community for their prompt actions and urged anyone with information about the babies' mothers or relatives to report to the nearest police station or contact the Command's Public Relations Officer.
