FCT police rescues two abandoned babies in Abuja, moves to identify mothers

Federal Capital Territory, FCT, police authorities have rescued two abandoned babies in separate incidents in the Kurudu and Gwagwalada areas of the nation's capital, Abuja. SP Josephine Adeh, the police public relations officer, announced the rescue on Friday. On September 2, 2026, Mr Innocent, a resident of Kurudu, reported a baby's cry near Obodo Street, leading to the discovery of an abandoned baby boy in a carton box.

The baby was handed over to the Social Welfare Department for further care. Later that day, Mr Ibrahim, a resident of Gwagwalada, heard a baby's cry outside his gate. He and community members rescued the baby girl, who was taken to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital for medical examination and is now receiving care. The FCT Police Command is seeking information from the public to identify the babies' mothers.
