Pattaya lights up city sign in US colors to welcome sailors

Pattaya has welcomed thousands of USS Abraham Lincoln sailors with a vibrant display, illuminating its iconic city sign in the colors of the American flag. The USS Abraham Lincoln anchored at Laem Chabang Deep Sea Port in Chon Buri on September 2nd for a port visit scheduled to continue until September 6th. An estimated 4,800-5,000 US Navy personnel were expected to disembark during the visit to rest and replenish supplies after operations in the Middle East.

Many of the sailors had been spending their shore leave in Pattaya. On September 3rd, the second day of the sailors' shore leave, Mayor Poramet Ngampichet greeted the visitors with a special display. The "Pattaya City" sign on the hillside overlooking Bali Hai Pier was set ablaze in the colors of the US national flag, creating a dazzling sight for both visitors and residents.

The display was a heartfelt gesture to the US sailors and added a festive atmosphere to the city during their stay. The large number of visitors has given a much-needed economic boost to Pattaya's local business during its typically slow low season. The sailors, besides enjoying sightseeing and leisure activities, have been spending money at various establishments across the city, from restaurants to shops, entertainment venues, and tourist attractions.
