Patricia Appiagyei denies memo alleging she rejected GH¢70,000

Deputy Minority Leader Patricia Appiagyei has dismissed a circulating memo claiming she rejected a payment of GH¢70,000 meant to influence her vote during the recent vetting of ministerial and Supreme Court nominees. The Deputy Minority Whip, OSP, has initiated an investigation into the alleged payment, which Appiagyei categorically denies as being untrue.

The memo, which appeared on September 4, 2026, alleged that the Deputy Minority Leader turned down the money due to lack of knowledge about its origin. The controversy stems from the Minority Caucus's boycott of the vetting of three Supreme Court nominees on August 27, 2026, over what they perceived as an inadequate and hasty timeline.

This protest was led by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who criticized the rushed process for lacking sufficient parliamentary scrutiny and public input. He questioned the urgency of the matter, pointing out that the Supreme Court already had a full bench of Justices. Afenyo-Markin submitted nine procedural objections to the vetting process, causing Majority members of the committee to walk out in protest after the chairperson, Bernard Ahiafor, dismissed the objections as insufficient and unfounded.

Ahiafor stressed that if any Member of Parliament disagreed with a decision of the House, they should follow Parliament's Standing Orders to request a reversal, rather than challenging the decision unilaterally.
