End partisan recruitment into security agencies – Asiamah Amoako

Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament Andrew Asiamah Amoako has urged an end to the practice of considering political affiliation when recruiting personnel into Ghana's security agencies. The Fomena MP argued that such recruitment should be based on merit, competence, qualifications, and discipline instead of political loyalty. He cautioned that allowing partisan considerations to play a role in recruitment could undermine the country's security framework and hinder the development of professional, efficient, and accountable institutions.

Addressing the 9th REPAM-CDS Security Governance Conference on September 3, Mr. Asiamah Amoako emphasized that every Ghanaian should have an equal chance to serve in the security sector based on their abilities. "We are advocating that every Ghanaian is a Ghanaian. Let's look for people who have what it takes to do the work, and I think that is what can actually help Ghana to move on.

It's not about partisanship," he stated. Mr. Asiamah Amoako stressed that recruitment decisions should prioritize the ability of candidates to perform their duties effectively and adhere to the standards expected of the security services. He called on authorities responsible for recruitment in the various security agencies to prioritize qualifications, competence, and discipline.

Asiamah Amoako contended that a merit-based recruitment system would enhance professionalism within the security services and improve their capacity to effectively address national security threats.
