OPay, a prominent fintech company in Nigeria, reaffirmed its commitment to operating normally in the country despite false rumors circulating online. The company held a town hall meeting in Lagos to address misinformation and reassure customers, merchants, and the Nigerian economy. COO Dotun Adekunle emphasized that OPay was operating and would not suspend or discontinue its operations.

He urged Nigerians to verify information through official OPay channels before making financial decisions based on unverified online messages. OPay also announced that it would take legal action against those responsible for spreading false information, confirming that the matter is under investigation by the Department of State Services and the Nigeria Police Force.

The company's legal counsel, Akinfolabi Rokosu, stated that OPay would pursue the perpetrators to ensure accountability and protect customers. Industry stakeholders expressed concerns about the spread of false information, which can undermine trust in the financial system and discourage the use of digital payments. OPay's commitment to Nigeria extends beyond financial transactions, as the company supports education through its 10-year scholarship initiative, which has already benefited students at various universities across the country.
