Nigerians selling their kidneys because Tinubu made country expensive – Atiku

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticized President Bola Tinubu for exacerbating the economic hardship faced by Nigerians. In a recent post on social media, Atiku expressed his concern over reports indicating that young people in the country are resorting to selling their organs, particularly kidneys, to make ends meet due to the skyrocketing cost of living.

He stated that young Nigerians should be focusing on their dreams, pursuing careers, and innovating rather than considering such extreme measures. Atiku emphasized that the growing reports of body organ sales are a grim reflection of the desperation and poverty caused by the rising costs of food, transportation, rent, education, medicine, and electricity.

He pointed out that the current laws against commercial organ sales and organ trafficking are inadequate to tackle the issue, as they fail to address the deep-rooted poverty and desperation that make young people vulnerable to criminal networks. Atiku called for economic reforms that prioritize the well-being of citizens, making essential goods and services more affordable.

He urged that young Nigerians should be selling their ideas, talent, and innovation to the world, rather than their organs for as little as N1.7 million to survive. Atiku described the situation as a direct consequence of Nigeria's cost-of-living crisis and accused the Tinubu administration of intensifying the economic burden on the populace.
