Lagos begins six-month Turnbull-Parkview upgrade September 14 to ease Ikoyi traffic

The Lagos State Government has announced the commencement of a six-month upgrade project at the Turnbull-Parkview intersections along Gerrard Road in Ikoyi on September 14, 2026. The aim is to alleviate traffic congestion in the area, as stated by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, during a meeting with stakeholders on Thursday at Banana Island Estate.

Osiyemi emphasized the importance of cooperation from all stakeholders to ensure the project's timely completion, along with measures to minimize disruption during construction. The project focuses on upgrading the junctions to reduce bottlenecks and facilitate smoother vehicle movement within the vicinity.

Bolaji Bada, the Director of Transport Engineering at the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, provided insights into the planned improvements. The two intersections connect to major roads and frequently experience heavy traffic, leading to gridlock, especially during peak hours. The project's scope includes works around the junctions to enhance traffic flow.

The meeting aimed to address concerns regarding the project and foster collaboration between the government, residents, and affected parties. In July 2024, the Lagos State Government temporarily closed a road stretch from Osborne Foreshore Estate Phase 1 to the Adeniji ramp for three days to allow asphalt laying, demonstrating ongoing efforts in road maintenance and traffic management in the area as preparations for the latest junction improvement project progress.
