KP Announces Quail Trapping Season

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Wildlife Department has announced the opening of the quail trapping season for the 2026-27 hunting year. Common quail and rain quail can be trapped throughout the province, provided certain conditions are met, under the Small Game Hunting Act, 2015. This license is mandatory for quail trapping, and the maximum number of birds allowed per person per day is 15.

The trapping season is limited to Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The department has warned that anyone found trapping quails on other days will face legal consequences under the KP Wildlife and Biodiversity Act, 2015. Wildlife staff will monitor both the quail population and trapping activities, and the season may be suspended to protect the species if necessary.

Quail trapping can only be done using traditional Bulara/Lawa methods, and the use of electronic devices for calling or trapping is strictly prohibited. The license fee is Rs8,000, with an additional possession license fee of Rs300 where applicable. Shooting quails in any form or through any means is not allowed. Exceeding the prescribed bag limit will result in compensation and charges for possessing protected or unprotected birds, whether alive, dead, or in trophy form, according to notified rates. These regulations aim to safeguard and conserve quail species in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
