Dar holds conversation with OIC SG on phone

Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar engaged in a telephone dialogue with the recently inaugurated Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed. Senator Dar expressed his congratulations to his OIC counterpart on his successful election by consensus.

He emphasized the significant role Pakistan places on the OIC, and predicted that the OIC's new leader would make a valuable contribution to furthering the aspirations of the Muslim world, while tackling shared concerns. These concerns included the Palestinian issue and the Jammu & Kashmir region.

The Secretary-General reciprocated by acknowledging Pakistan's support for his candidacy, and recognizing Pakistan's crucial position within the OIC. He commended the leadership of Pakistan, including Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Dar himself, and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, for their efforts in bringing an end to the Iran conflict.

Furthermore, the two leaders congratulated each other on the signing of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye. This agreement was highlighted for its importance in promoting regional peace and security. Both parties expressed their commitment to collaborate closely, to further strengthen the OIC's role in serving the Muslim Ummah, and agreed to engage in regular coordination, with the aim of scheduling an early meeting.
