Zahid Hamidi, President of Umno, has expressed his preference for early general elections. The current Parliament is set to end around December 2027, and the Election Commission can conduct elections within 60 days following that, up to February 2028. Zahid, who is also the chairman of Barisan Nasional, believes that an early election would be more advantageous for the party.

However, if the Parliament's term ends by the end of the year, the party remains prepared to face the situation. If the election happens early, the mandate of the people can be obtained more quickly. Nonetheless, if the Parliament's term continues until the end or beyond, the party remains ready to face the situation. Zahid stated that the party could also go solo due to the political landscape in Johor, but in Negeri Sembilan, they felt the benefits of working with any coalition party were greater.

They will assess the pros and cons of partnering with other coalition parties to balance the political gains in each state. The party aims to see the profit and loss account of politics in the long run, whether it is black or red, or anything in between. Zahid emphasized that the foundation of the Malay people's needs for unity should be given priority, making it a priority for the party to do something (coalition with other parties) to shape the future of politics.

However, they also acknowledge the need for a multiparty system in our country to deal with the increasingly complex politics in the coming decades.
