'Welcome to the AGI era': OpenAI launches GPT-6 Astra

OpenAI has unveiled GPT-6 Astra, a groundbreaking artificial general intelligence (AGI) system capable of navigating software and performing complex tasks without human intervention. In a press briefing, OpenAI co-founder and president Greg Brockman made a bold statement, announcing the arrival of the "AGI era." Unlike previous iterations, Astra is designed to work across browsers, spreadsheets, websites, and desktop applications, producing finished documents and presentations in minutes.

It can handle tasks such as filling out online forms, updating CRM records, organizing calendars, conducting web research, drafting results into documents, creating websites, operating engineering applications, and even installing and troubleshooting software. During a promotional video, Astra demonstrated its capabilities by transforming a simple yellow circle into a rocket ship and creating a 3D game within minutes, all through voice input alone.

Enterprise customers can access Astra through OpenAI's gated access program, Daybreak, which will roll out to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise customers, as well as through the OpenAI API and cloud platforms like AWS Bedrock and Microsoft Azure. OpenAI claims Astra represents its largest training jump yet, with the model pretrained using over 100,000 DBUs at the company's Stargate infrastructure and built upon previous models' supervision during training.

The model's performance on various benchmarks, such as FrontierMath Tier 4 v2, DeepSWE v1.1, BenchCAD, GPQA Diamond, and ExploitBench, underscores its advanced capabilities. However, the last benchmark, ARC-AGI-3, comes with a caveat, highlighting an ongoing issue in the industry regarding the evaluation of AGI systems.
