Umno can’t have one foot in govt, says PKR Youth leader

PKR Youth deputy chief Nabil Halimi has criticized Umno, urging it to either fully commit to the current Madani government or step down from its ministerial positions to support Perikatan Nasional. In a Facebook post, Halimi stated that Umno's ministers and MPs must make their stance clear if they believe a fresh election should be held sooner to secure a new mandate.

If they wish to remain in the government, they should fulfill their duties until the mandate is concluded. Alternatively, if they choose to align with PN, they need to relinquish their positions in the government. Halimi emphasized that Umno should not be perceived as being divided between the government and opposition. This comes after Barisan Nasional chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi suggested holding the 16th general election (GE16) earlier to obtain a fresh mandate, as completing the parliamentary term at the end of the year would allow the government to seek voter approval.

Despite Umno's role in the BN coalition, which is part of Anwar Ibrahim's PH-led unity government, Halimi contended that the public should not be confused by such political maneuvering. He advised the PH-led government, along with GPS, GRS, and other partners, to continue fulfilling its mandate while retaining majority support in the Dewan Rakyat.

Halimi urged them to utilize the remaining time to implement reforms, bolster the economy, and address the people's concerns.
