UAE sends rescue mission to Nepal after deadly floods, landslides

Abu Dhabi: The United Arab Emirates has sent an urgent rescue mission to Nepal to assist those impacted by severe floods and landslides that have claimed lives, caused injuries, and resulted in dozens of people going missing, leading to extensive damage. President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan ordered the mission as part of the UAE's ongoing humanitarian efforts to aid the disaster-stricken nation.

The UAE has committed $10 million to the relief cause and has dispatched two planes carrying a total of 128 tonnes of humanitarian supplies. The first plane carried 83 tonnes of food and shelter-related items, while the second plane delivered 45 tonnes of essential relief materials, including food, other supplies, and electricity generators.

The latest expedition includes personnel from the Joint Operations Command, a search-and-rescue team from Dubai Police, and the UAE Aid Agency. The team comprises experts in humanitarian relief, medical evacuation, and first aid who aim to deliver immediate medical assistance to the injured and support search-and-rescue operations alongside Nepalese authorities.

The UAE Aid Agency, in collaboration with the UAE Embassy in Kathmandu, is coordinating with local authorities and international organizations to ensure the timely delivery of relief to affected individuals, regardless of their age.

Since 2026, Nepal has been among the 16 countries across four continents to receive UAE humanitarian support. The UAE's latest response underscores its dedication to providing swift humanitarian aid to communities affected by crises and natural disasters, fostering international solidarity, and promoting humanitarian cooperation.
