Trump floats renaming Strait Of Hormuz ‘Trump Strait’ amid Iran conflict

US President Donald Trump has suggested renaming the Strait of Hormuz to "Trump Strait," stating that the strategic waterway is now under US control despite ongoing Iranian attacks on vessels in the area. In a post on Truth Social, Trump questioned whether the name should be changed, stating "Now that we have it under U.S.A. control, should we change the name Hormuz Strait to TRUMP STRAIT???"

"Like America itself, it would be 'hotter' than ever before!" The proposal follows escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran, with the US carrying out strikes near the Strait of Hormuz and Iran attacking vessels in the area. The White House later added a label reading "Trump Strait" to a map of the Gulf. The Strait of Hormuz, a key energy-shipping route, is one of the world's most important, with approximately one-fifth of global oil supplies passing through it under normal circumstances.

This proposal is part of a series of geographical renaming moves by the US president, including renaming Lake Ontario to "Lake America" last week and the Gulf of Mexico as "Gulf of America" in the past. The conflict with Iran has now entered its seventh month, despite Trump's earlier prediction that the war would be brief.
