Tinubu didn’t sulk, interfere after APC lost Osun governorship election — Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has stated that President Bola Tinubu neither sulked nor interfered following the APC's loss in the Osun State governorship election. The assertion was made at the Freedom Online 7th Annual Lecture, where Sanwo-Olu discussed the growth of democracy under Tinubu's administration. According to Sanwo-Olu, the APC candidate lost the election, which took place on August 15, when Adeleke, the candidate of another political party, emerged victorious by more than 60,000 votes.

The President, Sanwo-Olu said, accepted the result and contacted Adeleke the next day to congratulate him, urging the new governor to unite the state and expressing gratitude to INEC and security agencies for the peaceful and transparent elections. Adeleke, in turn, publicly thanked Tinubu for ensuring a level playing field during the election.

Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the outcome demonstrated the maturation of democracy in Nigeria, highlighting that the ruling party can lose a state during an election year without the democratic system collapsing. He further stated that Tinubu's commitment to democracy is aimed at leaving behind a stronger democratic system not only for Nigerians but also as an example to other African countries.
