Swimmer eyes 2nd straight Korean MVP award at Asian Games

Korean swimmer Kim Woo-min expressed his intent to pursue his second consecutive MVP award at the upcoming Asian Games in Japan. Last year, Kim was named the top athlete for Korea after securing three gold medals during the 2023 Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China. Kim made this statement to reporters on Thursday, prior to the national delegation's launch ceremony at the Jincheon National Training Center in Jincheon, South Korea, which is located 85 kilometers south of Seoul.

He acknowledged that winning the MVP award would be challenging, but he remains determined to give his best effort.

Kim currently holds the title in the men's 400-meter and 800-meter freestyle events, as well as the men's 4x200m freestyle relay. He emphasized his desire to secure as many medals as possible during the competition. Kim specifically highlighted the importance of the 400m freestyle race, which he believes will be the most crucial event. He shared that he is currently managing a minor shoulder injury, but he assured that it won't have a significant impact on his training.

Representatives from other Korean athletes participating in the September 19 to October 4 Asian Games competition shared their aspirations to reach the podium and optimize their performance during the event.
