‘Resign and join NDC’ – NPP tells Chief Justice over alleged political commentary

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has demanded that the Chief Justice of Ghana immediately resign due to alleged political commentary made in a video. The party claims the Chief Justice, in a video, made partisan political comments comparing the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to the previous National Democratic Congress administration.

The NPP stated that such comments are inconsistent with the constitutional independence of the judiciary and breach the judicial oath to administer justice without fear, favor, affection or ill will. They argue that the Chief Justice's increasing association with political appointees of the current government raises concerns about judicial neutrality, especially in cases involving the executive.

The NPP also alleges that the Chief Justice has pledged his efforts to the success of the executive's agenda, which they claim could undermine public confidence in his impartiality. The party demands that the Chief Justice retract his comments and pledge of loyalty to the president's agenda, or resign and formally join the opposition NDC.
