PAS Youth wants party to lead, not follow, in race for Putrajaya

Terengganu Youth representative of the Islamic Party of Malaysia (PAS), Mukhlis Hasin, has called on the party to spearhead unity efforts among Malaysians of Muslim faith, rather than simply serving as a "yes-man" to the party leadership. Speaking at the wing's 67th muktamar, Mukhlis stressed the importance of leading this unity, rather than merely defending it for the sake of unity.

He reminded the audience that it is crucial not to be timid in defending one's identity for the sake of unity, nor to fear speaking the truth for the sake of unity.

Mukhlis highlighted that the greatest challenge lies not only in uniting members at the grassroots level but also in ensuring the party leadership is prepared to successfully implement the unity effort. He further mentioned that the Terengganu PAS Youth would back the party leadership's decision on seat allocations in the state if cooperation with the Barisan Nasional- Umno coalition occurs.

The wing would likewise support the party's choices on candidates and political unity, including alterations to the electoral contest landscape, he added.

Mukhlis posed a question to fellow delegates regarding the potential scenario where Terengganu (PAS-PN) secures a landslide victory of 40-0. He inquired whether they would allow Umno to contest in Terengganu. He said that if unity is achieved, and Terengganu (PAS-PN) emerges victorious, the young people from Besut to Kemaman will work tirelessly to ensure unity. He pledged that they would defend and guarantee victory for any candidate chosen by PAS.

These remarks come as discussions surrounding potential cooperation between PAS and Umno have gained traction, particularly after the state elections in Negeri Sembilan. In that election, Umno and PAS, represented by BN and Perikatan Nasional respectively, formed an informal electoral understanding, which facilitated the two blocs securing 26 of the 36 seats and forming the state government.
