Over 10 students arrested in connection with Okuapeman-Mount Sinai SHS clash

More than ten students have been apprehended by the police following violent clashes between Okuapeman Senior High School and Mount Sinai Senior High School in the Akuapem North Municipality of the Eastern Region. The confrontations, which erupted early Wednesday, September 2, led to the damage of several facilities on both campuses through arson attacks.

Eastern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Joseph Owusu-Bempah, informed Citi FM that several students fled the schools upon the arrival of law enforcement, but stated that the escaped students would be pursued and apprehended. He emphasized that those who have yet to be detained would be identified and arrested. Furthermore, investigations have revealed allegations that certain teachers may have incited students to partake in the violence, prompting a search for these educators.

Should the police find concrete evidence linking teachers to the incidents, they will be apprehended and their names publicly disclosed, according to the police commander. DCOP Owusu-Bempah expressed that anyone involved in the attacks would be held accountable under the law. He appealed to the students to return to school and cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation, cautioning against any interference with the police efforts to restore order and ensure justice for the victims.

The clashed resulted in six students of Okuapeman SHS being injured, with four of them subsequently discharged from medical care, while two continue to require medical attention as of Wednesday. The violent incidents also led to the destruction or damage of various facilities at both schools. The police are still working to ascertain the precise catalyst for the confrontations and to identify all individuals implicated in the violent events.
