Mutfwang Orders Stronger Security Actions as Plateau Govt Reviews Emerging Threats

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang convened a State Security Council meeting to evaluate the security landscape in the region and bolster measures to maintain peace and safeguard citizens. The gathering, held at New Government House in Jos, brought together key officials including the deputy governor, heads of security agencies, government representatives, and traditional leaders like Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Jacob Gyang Buba.

Discussions concentrated on recent threats, localized incidents, intelligence sharing, inter-agency cooperation, and preventive actions aimed at securing lives, property, and economic pursuits. Police Commissioner CP Ayodeji Faniyan highlighted that the meeting was part of Mutfwang's ongoing evaluation of the state's security environment and emphasized the governor's role as the chief security officer in convening such sessions to pinpoint weaknesses and enhance existing protocols.

Faniyan regretted the unfortunate attack in Mangu, which, despite prior deployments, highlighted the necessity for enhanced preventive strategies. He disclosed that arrests were made linked to recent attacks over the past month, with ongoing investigations conducted alongside other security entities at both state and national levels.

Faniyan also announced the deployment of technological tools to analyze intelligence and monitor suspects, emphasizing that the governor has directed security agencies to escalate their efforts across Plateau. He urged residents to assist the administration by providing reliable and prompt information regarding suspicious movements and actions, underscoring that enduring security relies on robust collaboration between the community and security forces.

Faniyan reaffirmed the security forces' dedication to preserving Plateau's reputation as the "Home of Peace and Tourism," particularly as the ember months approached and political activities intensified ahead of the 2027 general election.
