Mother of USS Abraham Lincoln sailor "so relieved" son has arrived in Thailand

The USS Abraham Lincoln has returned to Thailand, after a record nine-month deployment at sea. Parents of sailors on the ship are relieved that their sons have safely arrived in the country. Christi McGarey, whose son Marshall Ludwig is among the crew, expressed her relief to CBS News. McGarey stated that her son believed the concerns regarding the sailor's safety were "overblown" and was aware of only one incident involving a sailor jumping overboard.

However, CBS News confirmed an incident of a sailor going overboard in August, which is currently under investigation. McGarey also noted that her son had limited communication with the crew during their deployment due to ongoing strikes on Iran and the U.S. blockade in Iranian ports. The USS Lincoln will depart Thailand and return to its home port in San Diego after a brief stay in the country.
